Australia boasts some of the most picturesque beaches on the planet with the coastline stretching for nearly 52,000 km, which includes over 11,500 beaches, more than any other nation. This coupled with 85% of Australia’s population, over 20 million people, living within one hour’s drive of the coastline means there needs to be a professional organisation dedicated to saving lives on our beaches.
The Australian Lifeguard Service (ALS) is a fully integrated national lifeguard service, providing services to more than 68 local government authorities and land managers across Australia. The ALS provides a committed, proactive and professional service on the beaches and within the community. The ALS is the sole provider of lifeguard services to coastal local government areas in Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and the major provider of services in Queensland, Western Australia and New South Wales.
Our service is one of the largest providers of paid lifeguards in the world and the largest in the southern hemisphere, employing in excess of 700 lifeguards across all States of Australia and encompassing more than 200 beaches nationally.
